The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has urged the Nigerian Government to conduct a speedy investigation in the shooting that occurred at the Lekki Toll Gate area of Lagos State.
In a statement on Wednesday, the body expressed its condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives during the protests and also wished the injured speedy recovery.
ECOWAS also said while it recognises the right of citizens to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and protests, it wishes that those rights be exercised in a non-violent manner.
“In this regard, ECOWAS Commission calls on all protesters to remain peaceful in the conduct of their demonstrations. It also urges the Nigerian security operatives to exercise restraint in the handling of the protests and act professionally,” the statement read in part.
“ECOWAS Commission further notes that, in an effort to address the demands of the protesting youth, the Federal Government of Nigeria took important decisions regarding disbandment of SARS, comprehensive police reforms and investigation of cases of police brutality. It encourages the Nigerian Authorities to conduct the investigation rapidly”.
Other international organisations such as the United Nations have also weighed in on the matter.
The Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, called on the Nigerian authorities to investigate the incidents and hold the perpetrators accountable.

“Police Men Shot My Wife In The Head While Our Children Watched Her Die”-Man Narrated
A man who was has gone through a terrible situation with Police Men narrated his experience today with Pastor TB Joshua during their Sunday Service. This man was called out to speak with TB Joshua while the church members listened attentively. This man sat down with a visible bandage on his neck, he came to sit in front of the church members with his 4 children but his wife was missing. He came out with two girls and two boys who were his children, he was given a microphone to speak and he started to narrate his terrible experience with Police Officers.
This man said that on that terrible day, he was coming back from church with his wife and his four children. As they approached a junction, they sighted armed police men on the road. He was driving a tricycle which he is using for business and also for transporting his family to anywhere they need to go. These police officers stopped them on the road and after questioning him for minutes, they asked him to bring N2000 so that he can go. He told them that he isn’t a commercial driver and he is only managing the tricycle that he is driving to feed his own family. These police men looked at him for a while and asked him to enter his tricycle and go.
He entered the tricycle and asked his wife to enter also (they both came down to speak with these officers), this man narrated that immediately he entered his tricycle, he heard two loud gunshots and his head was ringing, he felt a sharp pain and quickly, his brain interpreted that pain and he knew he was shot. He was shot in the upper part of his left arm and the bullet also affected his jaw severely. He thought he was the only one that was shot, he heard his children shouting from the back that “mummy is dying”. He looked back to find out his wife was shot directly in the head by these Police Officers. The officers escaped the scene after they shot his wife in the head and shot him in the hand (which might be a miss) just because he didn’t pay them N2000.
This man made it known that his wife died on the spot after she was shot in the head, the painful part of his experience is that his children witnessed this horrible incident. His children watched their mother bled out and stopped breathing. They watched their mother and his eldest daughter hasn’t recover from the shock. This man said that his eldest daughter hasn’t been the same after she saw her mother die, she would have convulsions at time and can’t think straight due to the horror she saw on that day. He made it clear that the church of God should help him and assist him so that he can take Care of his family, he made it clear that his wife is still in the mortuary because he is still treating himself and has no money to bury her.
He also said that he wants Pastor TB Joshua to pray for his eldest daughter because she hasn’t been the same since that incident.
It’s really sad that these children would grow up with a fresh memory of their mother dying right in front of them, it’s really sad that they would remember that horrible scene anytime they see a good police officer.
This is the real reason why the Police need reform. What do you think?
”Back in 2013 my brother had a shop at mount olive plaza main market onitsha where he sells ladies wears imported from india….
He engaged one of his friends with his business activities and encouraged him to learn the trade from him and start up his own. His friend embraced the idea and joined him.
On his last trip to india, his friend told him he’ll like to come with him and do the shopping alongside . My brother agreed to that and asked him to inform his family he told us too and they set out weeks later.
His friend exhausted his money on the trip and asked for a loan from my brother, he informed my mom then told his friend that the he has dollars and he wants the loan paid back in dollars too. The friend assured him that there won’t be any problem, so he loaned him 10,000USD.
They arrived nigeria few days later and went about their daily business and two weeks later their cargo arrived. On the same day his friend told him his money is ready and that he should come for pick up, he informed my mom and sisters again then he set out to nnewi in the company of two friends.
He took his money, returned back to onitsha and went straight to emeka offor plaza to buy a phone for my dad and asked one of the boys with him to take the phone and 3,000 dollars home to dad.
He called my mom to give her situation report, he said
” i’m on my way to upper iweka now to pick up my goods and after that i’ll come home eat, shower, change and leave for lagos, i want to buy some made in Nigeria to sell too so i can have varieties, my phone is low but be rest assured i’m coming home tonight before i leave. I’m hungry please cook”.
He also informed her about the money and that he has the balance with him. My brother was such a mommy’s boy. When he got to upper iweka, he called again and emphasised on his low battery and still said he’s coming home. His phone battery died and that was the last we heard from him.
We waited the entire evening and night for him but we didn’t see any sign of him.
We called his phone but it was switched off.We waited the following morning but there was still no sign of him and at this point, we were scared. We called his phone but it was switched off.
My brother wouldn’t sleep outside even with a woman without informing any of us.
So my parents set out to search for him. They got to the park and asked about him but were told that some men dressed in mufti came to harass people, he was spotted and they found the money on him and tried intimidating him but he fought them back for his money
They told my parents that he was beaten till he became unconscious and they left with him and his other friend and if they were being honest those men came from SARS Awkwuzu.
My mother wept!
They left immediately for Awkuzu SARS but got there by 7:00pm, they weren’t let into the building on the account that it was past office time and that they should come back the following day. My parents came back home, gave us update and in clear terms told us that it was going to a very difficult time for everyone of us and they’re not sure what of will happen. They made calls to all their influential friends and even went to see one that night.
The following morning as early as 6:30am we had a knock, lo and behold it was my brothers other friend..
He was badly wounded, bleeding from all parts of his body, with a swollen p*nis and could barely even walk. We rushed out to him, took him in and we were all ears.
He told us everything we already know and confirmed they were taken to Awkuzu SARS…
We asked him how he got out and our brother’s state
He said he recognised an officer who knew him and asked him to stay put that he would smuggle him out the following morning but that my brother was unconscious and so he couldn’t leave with him.We asked if he was alive or dead he said alive.
My parents left to Awkuzu SARS in the company of my brother In law.
They left with a total sum of N15 million naira. They were made to pay 2 million to admit one of them into the compound. My father went in, while my mother remained outside the gate with so many others looking for their kids too..
He was taken straight to James Nwafor…
After rounds of denial that he wasn’t there, they got a call from Emeka Offor and then they agreed he was picked but this time they said he’s a criminal::
My father argued with him and told him that his son is not a criminal and that he’ll go to the press. After about 2hrs my dad was asked to leave and wait outside still without seeing my brother, meanwhile my mother was outside trying to penetrate their colleagues outside to ascertain the true situation of things. They spent the rest of the day outside and Went back the following day but this time we were asked to get some clothes for him, money for food and mattress too. My mother paid for these things. We were charged #250,000 for bed space alone.
On the third day, they told my parents that my brother is dead and that they should never come back.My father asked for his corpse but was told by James to get out of the premises. The following morning they came with a search warrant to our house and an arrest warrant for my father. But before the search ensued, my father informed them that he has a gun and papers for it….
They took him with the gun leaving his papers behind and left for Awkuzu:::
On getting there James told him that he supplies guns to the criminals and that he’ll be tortured till he confessed
My mother and my sister made another call to Emeka Offor who called James immediately and told him that if a single hair on my father is touched that he’ll end them all.
He was released immediately and my mom and sister took him straight to the hospital because at this point he was Very weak. My parents both had blood pressure up and father had stroke.
At this point all search for my brother stopped so we could concentrate on our parents. The following day again as early as 8:00 the SARS people from Awkuzu were at our gate. We let them in and they asked my aunt screaming to stop else they would kill her, they returned my dad’s guns and left.
My father was so shaken at the loss of his only son but he decided to stop all search.
Every corner of our house was cold and calm but it wasn’t peace, it was pain and fear. A Few months after this we got a call from Port harcourt SARS. They said my brother was transferred the following morning to their unit because of the noise his presence caused and that we should pay money for his release. My father informed us but told them he won’t come but he’ll speak with them and send someone.
They agreed to call him the following night by 9pm so that he could speak to my brother because my father wanted a confirmation.
They arranged someone to act as my brother and asked him to speak to my father. My father spoke to him, he asked him questions about us and he got them right but when my father hailed in the manner they greeted each other he failed in his response.
My father called a contact in PH and asked him to follow up and find out what was happening there. It turned out it wasn’t my brother and they never called again.
It’s been 6 years and 7 months. I can’t lie I’m hopeful. I’m Hoping he would come back one day. Or I’ll see him even if he’s mad roaming the streets and has lost memory. I’m really hoping…..
Drama is never far as it may seem as the on going end sars protest unfold a lot disagreements even among the youths. Who have been protesting over the course of weeks now for a better Nigeria. What had actually started as a mare protest for bad policing has turned into a global call for accountability for good governance.
But it seems not everyone is on the same page, as news reaching Ibyson Fortes Blog is that the protest in akwa ibom has a different drama on it’s own to tell. The culprit in this particular saga is one Mr kufre carter, Looked upon as one of the leaders who had disappointed it’s followers.
It seems the mentality of youths in Nigeria have changed oo.
There are two separate videos which imagined online yesterday where Nigerian youths practically rejected millions of Naira offered to them on protest grounds.
In UYO, the governor of the state offered the youths on ground 4 million Naira so they can stay off the street and stop protesting.
The crowd of youths gathered there wasted no time to call the governor a yahoo boy for trying to bribe their conscience and opinion.
There were some alleged report circulating that after the Governor was booed, Mr kufre went behind to take 4million naira from the governor of which he has finally come out to debunk the news, stating he was only given five hundred thousand instead. This apology was rendered after he was called out for been very dishonest.

The Senator also commended Nigerian youth for their protests against police brutality.
Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, lawmaker representing Ondo South Senatorial District, on Friday said operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad killed one of his constituents.
Tofowomo disclosed this in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Akinrinlola Olumide.
The Senator also commended Nigerian youth for their protests against police brutality.
He said, “I commend Nigerian youth for protesting the brutality of the notorious police unit known as SARS in recent days. While I stand by the youth in protesting the continuous killing of innocent souls by security operatives, especially men of the SARS unit, it is a slap on all of us – an insult to Nigerians; the mere change of name from SARS to Special Weapons and Tactics by the Inspector-General of Police.
“The problem with the police system in Nigeria is beyond the naming and renaming of a particular unit. Nigeria’s internal security is a total mess, ranging from overgrowing police brutality, impunity, human rights abuses, decaying infrastructures, poor funding, unabating official corruption, analogue policing, and many others that could not be overemphasised.
“There is a need for police reform in Nigeria. The police system in Nigeria does not conform to contemporary society.”
The demonstration started last week after operatives of the recently-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) killed a young Nigerian in Delta state and also made away with his vehicle.
Before its dissolution on Sunday, October 11, 2020, SARS officers were infamous for extra-judicial killings and human rights violation.
Despite the dissolution of the police unit, the #ENDSARS protest has intensified across the country as it spreads to major cities and gathers momentum and support from Nigerians abroad.
Speaking for the first time on the youths’ protests, the VP in a series of tweets on Friday, October 16, 2020, apologised to the youths saying he understands their anger and frustration.
The VP admitted that too many Nigerians have been brutalised by the police, who are paid to protect them.
On efforts to address the situation, Osinbajo said several meetings have been made with the leaders of the National Assembly, Police authorities and President Muhammadu Buhari.
He assured the youths that work is ongoing on some of the issues they’ve raised, adding that the 36 governors have been asked to set up judicial panels of inquiry to deliver justice to victims of police brutality in the country.
The VP also promised to update and engage the youths on steps being taken to address the situation and the youths’ demands.
Few Hours After Apologizing To Nigerians, See What Was Found On The Vice President’s Table(PHOTOS)
Our dear country has been thrown into a protest zone by the youths of the country against police brutalities as well as the The killings, and extortions. Few days ago, the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari addressed the nation on the police reform matter, but youths are not convinced yet.
Few hours ago, the vice president professor Yemi Osibanjo addressed the nation through his twitter handle, he apologized to the Nigerian youths for the long time it’s taking to address all these matters in the country. He went ahead to send his condolences on those that have lost their lives in the struggle.
However, in the picture he posted with the tweet, there were some plain papers on the table, and we had to take a look at them.
The protest in Nigeria for the complete retirement and ending of SARS and the new SWAT operatives in the country continues to go on after the 5 demands of Nigerian youths is yet to be seen in action.
Thousands of youths are still on the street everyday protesting and asking for the end of SArs and most Nigerian Celebrities including Davido, Wizkid, Mr P, Falz, Tacha, Phyno, Flavour, AY, Rudeboy and many many others has joined the protest.
I am currently reporting from Anambra state and there is a huge problem in Awka, the capital of Anambra state due to the heavy crowd and protest led by Phyno and Flavour accompanied with master Kraft, Zoro and Kcee.
There is heavy traffic blocking the express way and no vehicle is able to move as protesters continue to ask the government to end Sars even after the governor of Anambra state, Governor Willie Obiano addressed the issue yesterday.
Phyno and Flavour led a new protest today and it’s already causing problems for transporters and travelers in the capital of the state.
Check out some photos and huge turn out by the youths to protest today. No vehicle is currently able to move for some hours now as the express way is occupied by protesters.
Aroma junction, Quarter junction flyover and Secretariat junction is a no go area at the moment.
Do you think this is the best thing to do even after the governor has addressed the issue yesterday ?. Leave us a comment below and don’t forget to share.
Here is what a well meaning intelligent Nigerian wrote concerning the demands of the ENDSARS ongoing protest. It therefore shows that the problem is not just to end Sars but a total reformation of our beloved Country.
